The New Microsoft Search Engine - bing

Botta bing, botta bing
As you have probably already noticed, Microsoft has re-invented their search product again. Most recently with their new search engine “bing”. There has been a numerous amount of blog posts about this launch, but I wanted to wait and see how things panned out before commenting myself.

It’s been several weeks now, and we’ve noticed a tremendous amount of traffic coming from bing to our client websites. In some cases, bing has risen above Yahoo! in referred traffic. This does not surprise me with the mass advertising blitz Microsoft has done of late. Will they be here for the long haul is the question.

With the launch of Yahoo!’s newly re-designed homepage, they just might weather the storm. It appears, at least to me, that Yahoo! has gone in a different direction. Not totally abandoning search, but focusing more on what they do best, which is connecting to their consumer base and providing relevant news, stories and now social media.

It’s too early to really tell, but my prediction is that bing will continue to grow and grow. Microsoft has a way of bullying themselves into our lives, whether we like it or not. I do admit, for the first time, I do like their new streamlined search product. They did their research and pulled the best functionality from Google and Yahoo! and tossed in a few of their own ideas.

At the very least, you may want to check to make sure your site is spidered by bing and local search. You could be missing out on some great leads.
